COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team will officially kick off the 2017-18 season at the Murray State Invitational Monday morning, competing in the two-day event after the team's original first tournament – the GolfWeek Program Challenge – was postponed due to the impending weather expected in South Carolina from Hurricane Irma.

MURRAY STATE INVITATIONAL: Sept. 11-12, 2017 – 54 holes (36 Monday, 18 Tuesday), located at the par-71, 6,601-yard Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky. Teams will kick off with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start on Monday and a 9 a.m. start on Tuesday.

GOLDEN EAGLE LINEUP: Competing for the Golden Eagles are freshman Will Brooks, junior Matthew Giles, sophomore Charles Seals, sophomore Cameron Yeary and freshman Bracton Womack.

THE COMPETITION: The 13-team field consists of host Murray State, as well as Bethel (Tenn.), Chicago State, Evansville, Green Bay, John A. Logan, Missouri Baptist, Morehead State, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin and Western Illinois.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH BROWN: "We are excited to get the season started. The guys have been hard at work and are ready to go. We want to thank Coach Hunt at Murray State for allowing us to come compete in their event on such short notice. We are very appreciative and looking forward to the opportunity."

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Golden Eagles return to an event that saw the team finish as runner up in 2015. Only Matthew Giles will enter the event with prior experience at Miller Memorial Golf Club, but the young squad boasts loads of potential. Former Golden Eagle great Scott Stallings still holds the 18-hole scoring record for the event, firing an 8-under 63 back in 2005. He won the event in both 2005 and 2006.
