COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Giving back to a community as supportive and caring as Cookeville has always been a top priority for Tennessee Tech Athletics and each one of its 14 Division I sports teams.

Recently, the Golden Eagles put together a clothing drive contest between each of the teams, spearheaded and run through the leadership of the Tennessee Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

The results we astounding, as the teams collectively brought in 1,313 items of clothing to donate to the local Cookeville Rescue Mission.

"Our student-athletes have always been heavily involved in giving back to the community, and the results of SAAC's recent clothing drive is just another example of their selflessness and love for Cookeville and the surrounding communities," said Mandy Thatcher, TTU Athletics' director of compliance and supervisor of community service. "This is one of the most successful clothing drives we have ever had and I want to thank all of our teams, student-athletes and coaches that participated."

Recognizing the top items donated per team, the Golden Eagle women's basketball team donated 455 items of clothing, more than 30 per teammate. The Tech soccer team collected more than 12 items per team member while the women's golf and volleyball teams each turned in at least 10 items per student-athlete.
