COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – This upcoming Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6, will represent Legends Weekend for several of Tennessee Athletics teams, including football, soccer and softball.
All three teams will honor championship teams from the past. The football team will honor the 1953 and 1958 OVC championship teams, the soccer team will recognize the 1998 OVC regular season championship squad and the softball team will celebrate the 2003 OVC regular season and tournament championship team.
The weekend kicks off Friday evening with the Tech softball team hosting Motlow State in a doubleheader exhibition at Tech Softball Field at 4 and 6 p.m.
The evening continues with the Golden Eagle soccer team hosting Southeast Missouri at Tech Soccer Field at 7:00 p.m. CT. All soccer alumni will be recognized at halftime of the match, which will also serve as the team's Pink-Out game to promote breast cancer awareness.
On Saturday, the softball team will host an alumni game at 11 a.m. at Tech Softball Field. Each person planning to participate will need to bring a glove and cleats/tennis shoes. Bats and helmets will be provided.
The soccer team will host its annual alumni game at noon at Tech Soccer Field, leading into food and a light lunch under the big tent in the tailgate area.
Football and softball alumni will also be invited to tailgate festivities on Saturday, with the park opening approximately three hours prior to the football team's kick-off of 6 p.m. Food and tickets will be available to all former student-athletes and their families under the big purple and white tent.
The Golden Eagle football team will play host to Southeast Missouri Saturday evening, with special recognition of each of the three teams' championship teams celebrating anniversaries planned throughout the game.
