Women's Volleyball

2023 (Junior): Young took part in all 30 of the team’s matches, playing in 114 of the 120 overall sets… led Tech and ranked eighth in the OVC with 437 digs… finished first on the Golden Eagles and 10^th in the league with 3.83 digs per set… tallied five kills, 85 assists, and 26 service aces on the year… contributed a career-high 28 digs versus Lindenwood (Nov. 20) at the OVC Tournament… dropped a season-best four aces in at Western Illinois (Oct. 26)… produced 25 digs against Eastern Illinois (Oct. 21)… locked down her 1,500^th career dig with 24 against Morehead State (Nov. 7)… averaged 5.00 digs per set in four matches… compiled 20 or more digs eight times… totaled double-digits in digs in 24 matches, including each of the final 19 contests of the season… racked up multiple aces in seven affairs… ended the year ranked fourth in program history with 1,559 digs and sixth with a digs per set rate of 3.83.

2022 (Sophomore): Young participated in all 31 of Tech’s matches on the year, competing in all 118 sets… led the Golden Eagles and ranked sixth in the OVC with 431 digs… paced Tech and ranked eighth in the league with 3.65 digs per set… finished second on the squad and ninth in the conference with 34 service aces and 0.29 aces per set… also totaled 101 assists and a pair of kills during the season… racked up a season-high 28 digs against Morehead State (Oct. 12)… landed a season-best three service aces three times, including the first two matches of the season versus Central Arkansas (Aug. 26) and at Missouri State (Aug. 26)… also converted three aces against SIUE (Oct. 15)… turned in her first kill of the year against Southern Indiana (Sept. 24)… secured her second kill at Southeast Missouri (Oct. 21)… contributed a career-high nine assists at #21 WKU (Sept. 16)… recorded her 1,000^th career dig at Southeast Missouri (Oct. 22)… averaged 5.00 digs per set in eight matches… compiled 20 or more digs five times… locked down double-digits in digs in 25 matches, including 11-straight contests from Sept. 30 to Oct. 29… posted multiple service aces in 11 matches… racked up 10 consecutive matches with at least one ace from Oct. 12 to Nov. 5… finished the season ranked tied for sixth in program history with a career digs per set rate of 3.83.

2021 (Freshman*): Young competed in all 30 of the team’s matches, taking part in all 114 sets of play… led the team and ranked third in the OVC with 36 service aces and 0.32 service aces per set… tied for the fifth-most single-season service aces in the rally-scoring era for Tech… paced Tech and finished fifth in the league with 448 digs… topped the purple and gold while ranking sixth in the OVC with 3.93 digs per set… tallied 86 assists, 38.5 points, and a pair of kills as well… fired a season-high five service aces against UNC Asheville (Sept. 4)… compiled a season-high 27 digs in just four sets against Morehead State (Oct. 6)… racked up 26 more digs in four sets at Morehead State (Oct. 27)… registered her first career block assist at Murray State (Oct. 15)… posted season-highs of seven assists against Austin Peay (Oct. 8) and again at Belmont (Nov. 12)… averaged 5.00 digs per set in five matches… posted 20 or more digs five times, including back-to-back tilts against Morehead State (Oct. 6) and Austin Peay (Oct. 8)… secured double figures in digs in 26 matches, including 21-straight tilts from Sept. 17 to Nov. 13… delivered multiple service aces 10 times.

2020-21 (Freshman): Young played in all 16 of Tech’s matches, appearing in all 61 sets overall… led the Golden Eagles and ranked sixth in the OVC with 243 digs… paced Tech and ranked ninth in the league with 3.98 digs per set… finished second on the purple and gold with 32 assists and fourth with 16 service aces… made her collegiate debut with 15 digs and a pair of assists at Austin Peay (Feb. 7)… ripped off a season-high 34 digs at Murray State (Mar. 22)… racked up season-highs of four service aces and five assists against Belmont (Mar. 28)… averaged 5.00 digs per set in four matches… tallied 20 or more digs four times, including back-to-back matches at Murray State (Mar. 22) and against Belmont (Mar. 28)… totaled double-digit digs in 13 matches… compiled multiple service aces five times.

High School: Young was a four-year letterwinner as a libero for head coach Mary Dayton at Stewarts Creek High School in Smyrna, Tenn.… named All-District Defensive MVP as a senior… collected All-Conference and All-Region accolades as a junior, leading her team to its first-ever Region Tournament appearance… earned All-Tournament Team honors twice… took home All-Region Honorable Mention honors in 2016… finished her career as a member of the 2,000-dig club, racking up 2,147 in four seasons… as a senior, tallied 477 digs and 57 service aces with a 91.2 serve percentage… produced a career-high 676 digs as a junior… ripped off 506 digs and 82 aces as a sophomore and 488 digs and 32 aces as a freshman… honored as Rutherford County Athlete of the Week as a senior.

Personal: Daughter of William and Kelly Young... born in Nashville, Tenn. on May 15, 2002… full name is McKenna Shea Young... mother, Kelly, played volleyball at Green Bay for one season… father, William, played baseball at Lipscomb for two seasons.

Academic: Pursuing a master's degree in counseling and psychology… earned her bachelor's degree in psychology in December 2023… named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll eight times and to the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll four times… received the OVC Academic Medal of Honor four times.
