Jorge was a mid-year addition to the roster in 2015, arriving in Cookeville in January in time for the spring semester…a versatile athlete who has competed in several sports, he provided immediate depth to the Golden Eagle lineup…opened his career playing in the middle spots in the lineup as a true freshman, but has potential to climb over the coming years.

AT TECH (2014-15): Jorge was added to the roster in January 2015 when he enrolled at Tech...recorded a 10-6 overall mark in singles play, performing solely in the spring…went an impressive 7-1 in the OVC…saw action in the middle of the Tech lineup…went 10-7 in doubles play, including 7-2 in the OVC…ended the regular season on a six-match win streak.   


BEFORE TECH: A native of Valencia, Venezuela, Jorge was active in a variety of sports prior to his arrival at Tech…active in ITF Tennis tournaments…also competed in swimming, karate, track & field and baseball...won several karate titles...heavily influenced by coaches Julio Cancelado and Jim Lewis...invited to play in the 2009 Orange Bowl Tennis championships in Miami...ranked as the No. 1 Boys U-18 tennis player in Venezuela...three invitations to Los Angeles for tournament play...competed in several Futures ATP tournaments...was among the elite 250 players at the ATP Pre-Qualifying in L.A.

PERSONAL: Jorge is the son of Jorge and Scarlet Alfonzo….full name is Jorge Eliecer Alfonzo Irigoyen…born June 5, 1996 in Valencia, Venezuela….majoring in civil engineering.
