COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Aaron Swafford set it up and Jordyn Potts knocked them down as they helped lead Tennessee Tech to its first shutout since 2013, fourth shutout since 2000 as well as the first shutout in the series against Tennessee State with the 35-0 victory on Saturday in Nissan Stadium.

For their efforts, Swafford was named the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference Football Association's Defensive Player of the Week, while Potts was the league's Freshman of the Week, as voted on by the combined sports information contacts.

Swafford, a 6-0 linebacker from Decatur, had five tackles – including three solo stops – as the Golden Eagles held the Tigers to 155 yards of offense, including 76 on the ground for the eighth-straight game to keep an opponent under 100 rushing yards in regulation.

However, it was his two interceptions that were backbreakers. Swafford returned a pick off of Deveon Bryant 20 yards to the TSU 10 with Potts passing to Justin Pegues on the next play. Swafford intercepted Draylen Ellis in the fourth quarter at the Tiger 47 and returned it back to the 15. Four plays later, Marcus Knight scored the second of his two touchdowns with a six-yard rush up the middle.

Potts, a 6-0 true freshman from Powell, ended the game with 213 yards of total offense and three total touchdowns. He completed 16 of his 32 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns, then rushed five times for 29 yards and another score. In addition to his 10-yard TD strike to Pegues, Potts kept the ball for a 12-yard rushing score in the first quarter, then threw a four-yard pass to Brad Clark in the end zone in the second quarter.
