Golden Eagles kick off OVC play, host Morehead State Saturday, Sunday and Monday

By Mike Lehman, TTU Sports Information

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It's hard to believe, but it's already time for Ohio Valley Conference play for the Tennessee Tech baseball team, as the Golden Eagle play host to Morehead State this weekend for a three-game series at Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.

Inclement weather in the area has changed the schedule for the series, with games originally set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Due to the most recent winter storm, the first game of the series will begin on Saturday with a 3 p.m. CST start. Game two will feature a first pitch time of 1 p.m. on Sunday and the third and final game of the series will commence on Monday at noon.

All three games are scheduled to be webstreamed by the Golden Eagle Sports Network on the OVC Digital Network. Fans can also follow all the action via live stats on TTUSports.com.

With a 14-2 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday, head coach Matt Bragga earned his 300th career victory, just the second Tech coach to accomplish that feat in the past 40 years.

FRESHMAN FOCUS
Power bats have always seemed to find their way into the Golden Eagle lineup, and this season is no different. Tech's top two batters through the first 10 games this season have been freshman Chase Chambers and Ryan Flick.

Tech's starting first baseman, Chambers leads the team with a .333 average, scoring five runs and driving in three in nine games. He also ranks second with three doubles. As the designated hitter, Flick is batting .324 with a team-high two home runs and .618 slugging percentage. He also leads the squad with 12 RBI and four doubles.

NOT SHORT ON TALENT
Listed at just 5-foot-6, sophomore Tyler Brazelton would seem to have a disadvantage on the field when just looking at him. But the third-year outfielder has taken the past two years to erase any doubt in his abilities.

Through 10 games this season, the Huntsville, Ala. native has already made a splash, batting .318 while spending half of his time on base with a percentage of .500. Brazelton launched the first Tech home run of the year out of the park. Let's also not forget that it was his walk-off RBI single that gave Tech its first win of the year.
