Cecilia Ramsey Fisher played alongside several teammates who are in the Tennessee Tech Sports Hall of Fame, and now the unsung hero has accepted the same honor for the crucial role she played in helping the women’s basketball team win three consecutive OVC titles and NCAA Tournament appearances from 1987-1991.

A team captain who yielded the headlines to her teammates, Fisher nevertheless earned a long list of honors and awards, both on the court and in the classroom.

“Cecilia Ramsey was one of the biggest reasons for the success of our team during her four seasons,” said former coach Bill Worrell, who joined her in the Hall of Fame Class of 2006.

“Cecilia could do everything – pass, shoot, defend, rebound and lead. Whatever team she was on in practice always won the scrimmage. All of our guards and players have been held to the standards she set, and none equal her all-around play.”

Ramsey stepped into a starter’s role as a freshman in 1986-87 and was a mainstay for the next four years as Tech posted a combined 91-30 record. With Ramsey in the backcourt, Tech won the OVC title three straight years and advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times, capturing first round wins in her sophomore and junior seasons.

When she left the program, Ramsey was ranked ninth all-time in both scoring (1,230) and rebounds (613), second in assists (644) and fourth in steals (212). She led the team in steals two seasons and in 3-pointers made and 3-point percentage in 1988-89.

She is one of just three players in the team’s history to record rare triple-doubles (done just six other times combined by Chris Moye and Taunya Lovelace), posting that feat twice. Against Eastern Kentucky as a sophomore she had 14 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists. In a win over Montevallo as a junior, Ramsey posted 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

As a senior in 1990-91 she was presented with the inaugural Frank Porter Award and also won the John P. Hendrix Leadership Award. She won four consecutive Best Academic Average Awards an the team and was twice honored with the Best Defensive Player Award.

In her debut season, she was voted to the OVC All-Freshman team, and she was picked for the OVC All-Tournament team three times. A four-time member of the OVC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll, she was named every semester to the TTU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. In 19991, she was one of three female athletes from among all sports in the conference to be selected as an OVC Scholar-Athlete.
