Ray Drost came to Tech in 1958 to serve as assistant football coach under coach Wilburn Tucker. He worked as Tech's defensive coach for seven years, helping the Golden Eagles claim four consecutive OVC championships. He was also named head baseball coach in 1959, guiding the team through four seasons. He posted a 24-40 overall mark, highlighted by an 11-6 record in 1961. After leaving the coaching ranks, he remained at Tech to direct the intramural program and, in 1987, Tech's intramural fields were named for him.
