James Jarell was a four-year letterwinner in football and basketball, serving as co-captain of the basketball squad in 1946 and captain of the football team in 1948. After graduating, he coached basketball and football while teaching at Central High School in Manchester, Tenn. from 1951-64, then spent 16 years as Superintendent of Coffee County Schools from 1964-1980.
