CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team trailed 6-0 after five innings, but the Golden Eagles weren't going to go down quietly.

After all, it had been a day filled with delay after delay after delay as rain swept through the Chattanooga area in the morning hours, playing havoc with the Chattanooga Challenge presented by Ruby Falls schedule.

So when the Golden Eagles got some offense going, Tech got it in a big way, striking for five runs in the final two frames against Radford on Saturday evening.

However, the Highlanders were able to hold on, taking a 6-5 victory.

Gabby LaSala hit her third home run of the weekend as she drilled a grand slam over the left field fence, doubling her RBI tally for the season with eight. Kayla Hughes, Hallie Davis and Jessie Lowert each scored on the blow.

Tech broke its scoreless drought in the contest in the sixth inning as Kelly Kennedy drilled an RBI single through the left side, sending Amity Brown home to score.

The Golden Eagles left seven runners on base.

Danielle Liberatore took the loss, falling to 0-4 on the season. She allowed four runs – three earned – on six hits, while walking none and striking out three in 3 2/3 innings of work. Leigh Ellen Thomas came on in relief, throwing 2 1/3 innings as she allowed two runs – one earned – on two hits.

Mallory Marsicek was credited with the win, allowing five runs on six hits, walking six and striking out four.
