STATESBORO, Ga. – The first day of action for the Tennessee Tech softball team saw the Golden Eagles have a tough time coming up with timely hits on Friday as Tech dropped a 6-3 decision to UNC Greensboro, then a six-inning, 10-0 loss to No. 15 Tennessee at the Eagle Round Robin at Georgia Southern.

 

The Golden Eagles (0-2) were able to collect home runs from Alyssa Richards and Sarah Freels among their six hits against the Spartans, but it wasn't enough to overcome a six-run effort for UNCG on nine hits.

 

Leigh Ellen Thomas (L, 0-1) took her first loss of the season, working 2 1/3 innings as she allowed four earned runs on six hits, while striking out three. Taylor Waldrop pitched the final 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowing two earned run on three hits, while walking one and striking out three.

 

Gabrielle Cubbage led the Spartans with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, driving in three runs, including a two-run shot to left in the bottom of the fourth.

 

Alicia Bazonski pitched her way to the victory, allowing two runs – one earned – on four hits as she walked one and struck out four.

 

Tech left five runners on during the opening contest, then six more in the day's second contest against Tennessee.

 

Against the Lady Vols, the Golden Eagles were only able to collect two hits as Hallie Davis and Callen Griffin collected safeties against UT starter Caylan Arnold, who worked five innings as she allowed one walk and struck out five.

 

Tech starter Danielle Liberatore gave up seven runs – six earned – on eight hits, walking four and striking out six.

 

Meghan Gregg led the Lady Vols with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, driving in five runs.

 

Tech continues play in the Eagle Round Robin on Saturday as it takes on Middle Tennessee at 12:30 p.m. and host Georgia Southern at 4:30 p.m.
