Tech sweeps Tennessee State, 7-0

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men’s tennis team defeated visiting Tennessee State, 7-0, at the Tech Tennis Courts on Friday.

The Golden Eagles improved to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in the OVC, while the Tigers fell to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in the conference.

Nicholas Stafford and Josh Girling won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Alex Chen and Lloyd Harris won 8-3 at No. 2 to secure the doubles point for the Golden Eagles. Oscar Pachon and Justin Kirstein won by forfeit at No. 3 for TTU.

Neither Stafford nor Pachon gave up a game in singles play while all six of the Golden Eagles defeated their opponents in straight sets. Stafford won (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 for TTU, while Pachon picked up the victory (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5.

Both Girling and Kirstein nearly joined their teammates in perfection, yielding just one game each to their opponent. Girling won (6-1, 6-0) at No. 2, and Kirstein was victorious (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4 for Tech.

Chen coasted to a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 for the Golden Eagles, while Harris won by forfeit at No. 6.

Tech will return to action on Saturday, April 10 when the Golden Eagles travel to Lipscomb for their regular season finale. TTU also has the OVC Tournament in its sights, which is set to begin Friday, April 16 in Paducah, Ky.
