Men’s tennis earns second seed in OVC Tournament

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Following a 6-1 record in conference play, the Tennessee Tech men’s tennis team has earned the No. 2 seed going into this weekends OVC Tournament. The OVC office released the tournament bracket today that has the Golden Eagles behind only top-seeded Eastern Kentucky.

Also in the tournament field are No. 3 Jacksonville State, No. 4 Morehead State, No. 5 Austin Peay and No. 6 Murray State.

The Golden Eagles and head coach Kenny Doyle will enter the tournament riding a five-match winning streak that has the team six games above .500. Tech’s lone conference loss came at the hands of Eastern Kentucky as the Colonels defeated TTU, 5-2, on their home court.

In the first round of the tournament, Morehead State and Austin Peay will square off at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 16 at the same time that Jacksonville State and Murray State are playing.

TTU and EKU receive byes in the first round, and Tech will meet the winner of the Jacksonville State/Murray State match in the semifinals at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17. A win in the semis would put Tech in the championship match, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles are looking to improve upon their finish in last year’s OVC Tournament when Tech lost to Jacksonville State in the semifinal round.

Match 1 - #4 Morehead State vs. #5 Austin Peay – 10:00 a.m.
Match 2 - #3 Jacksonville State vs. #6 Murray State – 10:00 a.m.
 
Saturday, April 17 - Semifinals
Match 3 - #1 Eastern Kentucky vs. Winner of Match 1 – 10:00 a.m.
Match 4 - #2 Tennessee Tech vs. Winner of Match 2 – 10:00 a.m.
 
Sunday, April 18 – Championship
Match 5 – Championship – 10:00 a.m.
