Men’s tennis finishes regular season with 5-2 win over Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men’s tennis team defeated Lipscomb, 5-2, in the team’s final regular season dual match of the season on Saturday in Nashville.

Head coach Kenny Doyle’s team improved to 10-4 in his first year at the helm. Lipscomb finished its season with a 4-13 record.

Justin Kirstein and Nick Stafford both recorded two wins for the Golden Eagles.

Kirstein paired with Oscar Pachon to win 8-5 at No. 2 doubles before the sophomore won in a third-set tiebreaker (2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7)) at No. 2 singles. Stafford teamed with Mario Gutierrez for the first time this season, and the duo won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles before Stafford handled his opponent at No. 5 singles in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).

After picking up the doubles point, two other Golden Eagles joined Kirstein and Stafford with victories in singles action as Lloyd Harris (No. 3) and Alex Chen (No. 6) both earned wins.

Harris, playing at No. 3 for the first time this season, won 6-2, 7-6 to extend his season-long winning streak to six matches, while Chen won 6-1, 6-2 to improve to 15-9 this season.

Tech returns to action on Saturday, April 17 in Paducah, Ky., at the OVC Tournament.
