Communiversity Night planned at Golden Eagle home opener Thursday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- When Tennessee Tech University hosts its first home football game of the season Thursday night, a whole lot of special guests will be in the stands cheering for the Golden Eagles.

Tech is hosting Communiversity Night, an event designed to spotlight the unique relationship between the local community and the University.

"This is a special event where we ask the entire community to come out and support Golden Eagle football," said Mark Wilson, TTU Director of Athletics. "It has become a great tradition so come out early and tailgate, enjoy the music and the commaraderie, and cheer on your Golden Eagles.

"Communiversity Night is an outreach program where we reach out to the local school districts, and the entire chamber of commerce and business organizations. If your business has not received a letter of invitation from Tech athletics, call the ticket office (931-372-3940). It's a chance to get complimentary tickets and see some exciting football."

The Golden Eagles will host Lane College at 7 p.m. in Tucker Stadium, following back-to-back road games at FBS foes Arkansas and TCU, both ranked among the best in the nation.

Co-sponsored by the Cookeville Area-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and Tennessee Tech athletics, Communiversity Night provides complimentary tickets to any business throughout the region.

"We're excited about this event and appreciate the support of the Chamber of Commerce," Wilson said. "Communiversity Night will showcase the partnership between the University and this community, and how important and valuable each one is to the other."

Communiversity Night will also be First Tennessee Bank Poster Night, and fans attending the game can receive a free color schedule poster of the 2010 team.

The Magic 98.5 Tailgate Park will open at 4 p.m. for anyone wanting to tailgate prior to the game. The tailgate park will feature music, activities for children, and other displays and special features.

"Season tickets are on sale, and they are the best deal to see the Golden Eagles," Wilson said. "In addition to the opener against Lane College, some of the top teams in the Ohio Valley Conference are coming to challenge your Golden Eagles right here in Tucket Stadium."

To get the Communiversity Night offer or to purchase sason tickets, call (931) 372-3940 or visit the Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon, or 1 to 4:30 p.m.
