There's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes of any athletic program, handling the day-to-day operations to keep the team running smoothly and working its way to championship performance.

Tennessee Tech is no exception and the women's basketball program has added a new face more than capable for the task as head coach Kim Rosamond has added Kate Sherwood as an assistant coach.

"I'm extremely excited and thankful to be joining the Tennessee Tech family," Sherwood said. "I look forward to assisting Coach Rosamond and her amazing staff as they continue to build this program. She has created such a positive winning culture here, which is what drew me to Tennessee Tech. Go Golden Eagles!"

Rosamond said, “We are extremely excited to have Kate join our staff. Her experience over the last two years at Eastern Michigan has prepared her well for this next step in her career. Kate’s organizational skills, attention to detail, work ethic and background in college athletics stood out during the interview process.  She has built a reputation of leaving people and places better than she found them, and I have no doubt she will make an immediate impact in our program.”

Sherwood earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Wayne State in 2022, then completed her master's degree in sport management from Eastern Michigan this past semester.

During her tenure at Eastern Michigan, Sherwood served as a graduate assistant. In this role, she was responsible for recruit mailings, team marketing, recruit graphics, pre-practice setup and post-practice takedown and overseeing the team managers, while also assisting the Director of Basketball Operations with opponent practice and shootaround schedules, travel coordination, per diem, food orders, community service events, itineraries, hotel and food reservations and game day duties.

During her time at Wayne State, she interned with both their strength and conditioning department, working with football and basketball student-athletes, as well as time in their media relations office, working with social media graphics and photos among other duties.

As a member of the Warriors' women's basketball team, she was a team co-captain in the 2021-22 campaign. Sherwood was a multiple-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Dean's List, was selected as a Division II Athletic Directors' Association Academic Achievement Award winner and was a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection three times. She was a two-time selection to the GLIAC All-Conference team and was named to the league's all-defensive team.
