Men's Cross Country

Sterling emerged as one of Tech's top runners in his sophomore season in 2012, continued to be a pacesetter in 2013, and looked to have a stellar senior season in 2014 before an injuury knocked him off course following three meets ...he showed consistent improvement in his times throughout his career.

AT TECH (2014): Sterling competed in the first three meets of this season and was climbing back steadily toward his career-best range when an injury put a premature halt to his career...season best time in the 8K was 27:11.10 at the Vanderbilt Invitational where he placed third on the team...named a team co-captain by head coach Wayne Angel.

AT TECH (2013): Sterling continued to develop as a collegiate runner and registered a solid year, finishing second among Tech runners in five of the six cross country meets...clocked his season-best time of 26:44.2 at Vanderbilt University, which was just shy of his personal best time...placed seventh overall in the Foothills Invitational with a time of 27:21.58

AT TECH (2012): Took another giant leap forward in his sophomore campaign...was among team leaders in every meet in 2012, including a team best effort at the Berry Invitational...had four of his first five times under 28 minutes, then reeled off a career-best effort at the OVC Championships with a time of 26:31.0 to eclipse his previous best by 30 seconds.

(In 2011): Sterling ran in six meets for the Golden Eagles as a rookie and showed consistent improvement throughout the season, including a time that ranked 15th fastest in school history (it is stil ranked as 25th best)...peaked at the end of the season, running a season-best 8K time of 28:26 at the OVC Championships and turning in his best finish relative to his teammates at the NCAA South Regional, where he was the fourth Golden Eagle to finish the 10K with a time of 35:27...cut his TTU Invitational time of 30:05 by more than a minute at Jacksonville State, posting a 28:44, then sliced that time to 28:32 at Evansville.

HIGH SCHOOL: Sterling ran cross country and track and field at Karns High School under coach Christopher Cowan-Banker...set a 5K personal record of 16:54.00 at the Foot Locker South Regional on Nov. 27, 2010 and ran in the TSSAA State Cross Country Championships...in track and field, he ran the 800 meter, 1600 meter and 3200 meter...set a personal-record time of 4:49.57 at the TSSAA Section 1AAA Championships on May 13, 2011.
