Austin continued to make improvements throughout his second season on the roster, and showed progress in learning his role during spring drills...fits his role well...came to Tech as a preferred walk-on in 2013 and spent his first season as a redshirt member while assisting on the scout team...a two-way starter during his high school career, he opened his Tech career at B, but moved to H during 2014 spring drills...played fullback while on the offensive side of the line during his high school days so he has the skills to be a blocker, ball carrier or pass catcher in the Golden Eagle attack...honor-level student who was accepted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society in his first year on campus.

AT TECH (IN 2014): A member of the team, Austin did not see any game action.

(IN 2013): Was a redshirt in his rookie season at Tech...worked on the scout team and continued to return to full strength.

HIGH SCHOOL: A summer knee injury forced Austin to miss his senior season at Station Camp High School...started his first three years for coach Shaun Hollinsworth...played fullback and linebacker...moved to defensive line as a junior, and was anticipating a switch back to linebacker for his senior season when he was sidelined...named second-team all-county as a junior in the 2012 season...rushed for more than 400 yards...accounted for 120 career tackles in three years.

PERSONAL: The son of Marc Nelson and Tracy Cannon...born August 19, 1994 in Nashville...full name is Marc Austin Nelson, and goes by his middle name...majoring in EXPW with focus on fitness/wellness, coaching and sports administration.
