A big and strong receiver with excellent hands, Krys has the potential for honors upon his return to action following a medical redshirt season in 2014 (broken foot)...played X in the spring, but will line up at the Z receiver slot in fall camp...used the year off to work hard in the Athletic Performance Center and increased his strength and size...potential to get looks for playing at next level...coaching staff learned quickly that it was tough keeping Krys out of the lineup in his first two years...great work ethic combined with a high skill level have helped him emerge as a dangerous receiver...showed constant improvement throughout his first two seasons on the squad...has seen action in 21 games in two seasons...knows how to find space in the secondary...tough to tackle once he makes the catch...has 32 career catches for  yards, tops among all active players.

AT TECH(IN 2014): Preseason injury sidelined Krys as a medical redshirt for the entire season...has worked hard to return from a broken foot.

(IN 2013): Started 11 games for the Golden Eagles as a sophomore...had a high of 66 yards on three catches against Indiana State...also caught four passes with 48 yards and a touchdown against Eastern Kentucky...led the team in receiving yards with 390 on 28 receptions.

(IN 2012): Saw action in 10 of 11 games for the Golden Eagles as a true freshman...came up with four receptions for 47 yards...caught his first career touchdown on a nine-yard pass from Tre Lamb in the game at Murray State..

IN HIGH SCHOOL: Krys was the Most Valuable Player and team captain for the Cocke County High School football squad where he lettered four years under head coach Greg Hacker...a versatile athlete, he also lettered four years on the basketball team and three times in track, and was conference champion in both the long jump and the high jump...on the gridiron, he played eight different positions, and was a threat every time he touched the ball...as a quarterback, runningback, receiver and return specialist, he piled up 14 total touchdowns in 2011 including seven on punt and kick returns...in all, he gained 1,680 all-purpose yards as a senior, and was a first-team all-state selection...invited to participate in two all-star games, and played in the East-West All-Star contest.

PERSONAL: Born January 28, 1994...the son of Denae Cates...full name is Krys William Cates...majoring in computer engineering.
