The returning starter at the Renegade linebacker position, Jake
has 179 career tackles in his first three years and should be among
the team leaders again in 2011...also has 11 career
tackles-for-loss...has made 27 starts and has played in 31 games in
his first three years on the roster...steady and smart player who
has made many big plays in his career...excellent understanding of
the system...a leader on the defense...sees the play and reacts
well...always gives a great effort...good foot speed and improved
agility...has been among the top eight players on the team each
year in tackles.
AT TECH (In 2010): Jake started 10 games and
played in all 11 contests in 2010...continued to rank among the
team's defensive leaders, finishing the year fourth on the squad
with 72 total tackles...also made 4.5 tackles-for-loss, caused two
fumbles and erecovered two fumbles...listed 15th in the OVC in
tackles-per-game and fifth in fumble recoveries...had nine tackles
against both Southeast Missouri and Murray State, then established
a new career high with 15 tackles in the season-ending victory over
Jacksonville State.
(In 2009): Jake was third on the team in total tackles
and tops among linebackers...made 62 total tackles including 24
solo stops...consistent in his play had between five and nine
tackles in eight of 11 games...season-high of nine tackles came at
FBS foe Kansas State...had seven stops and caused a fumble against
Tech's other FBS foe, Georgia...eight tackles against Tennessee
State and seven at Eastern Illinois...played in all 11 games and

(In 2008): After sitting out the first three games, Jake
earned himself a chance to play in the fourth game and made three
tackles at Western Michigan...the next week, he was in the starting
lineup and held that role for the final eight contests...finished
the year ranked eighth on the team in total tackles with 45, one of
three true freshmen among Tech's Top 10 in tackles...had two
tackles-for-loss...made four stops in his first start, Tech's home
victory over Central Methodist...credited with career-high nine
tackles at Eastern Kentucky...also made nine tackles against UT
Martin...had six stops at Austin Peay...ranked 33rd in the OVC in
tackles per game with 5.0...listed fourth in the conference among
all freshmen in tackles per game...helped Tech become the only
league school with two freshmen ranked among the Top 50 in the OVC
in tackles.
HIGH SCHOOL: After starting his high school career being
named the team's Freshman of the Year and rushing for more than 500
yards in 2004, Jake moved to the defensive side of scrimmage and
became a standout at linebacker...three-year starter at his new
position, he was a three-time all-area, all-region and
all-Tri-State selection...led Dalton to its first regional
championship in more than a decade, and was named a team captain
and Defensive MVP...Despite playing in only eight games as a
senior, he made 120 total tackles with 16 tackles-for-loss, four
fumbles caused and one interception...coached by Jim Bennett and
Kit Carpenter...piled up 380 total tackles in his final three
seasons...earned four letters in the shot put, discus and 100m dash
for the track & field team.
