Matt joined the squad and earned the assignment as the Golden Eagle placekicker in 2010...returns for his second season at Tech...has a strong leg...transfer from Oregon State University where he played one season and sat out a second...has two seasons of eligibility remaining...potential to be a real offensive weapon...can be extremely effective on kickoffs...was listed on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll both semesters in 2010-11.
At Tech (In 2010): Matthew ranked second on the
team in scoring in his debut season, accounting for 58
points...made nine of his 16 field goal attempts and went 31-for-34
in PATs...hit 3-for-3 inside the 30-yard line...connected on
2-for-5 between 30 and 40 yards....was 4-for-8 outside of the
40...longest field goal was 46-yard kick against Austin Peay...also
booted a 30-yard FG against the Govs on his way to earning OVC
Special Teams Player of the Week award....had a 27-yard field goal
at Arkansas to account for Tech's points against the
Razorbacks...made a 40-yard field goal against UT Martin...hit from
43 and 25 against Eastern Illinois...had three field goals against
Eastern Kentucky, hitting from 33, 45 and 21 yards...longest
attempt was from 51 against Murray State...credited with one tackle
at TCU, saving a touchdown...kicked off 51 times and had seven
touchbacks...averaged 62.7 yards per kick.
At Oregon State (In 2009): Matt was generally considered
the second kicker on the team…did not see any action and
took a redshirt season.
(In 2008): As a true freshman Matt played in four games,
converting a pair of extra point tries against Washington
State…also was used on kickoffs...made a game-saving tackle
on a kickoff late in the contest that preserved a 27-21 upset over
No. 1 ranked USC.
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner at Gonzaga Prep High School in Spokane … All-Greater Spokane League in 2006 and 2007 … all-state selection in 2006 and 2007 … played in the 2008 Washington East vs. West All-Star Game … kicked a game-winning 52-yard field goal in the state playoffs … earned three letters as a goalkeeper for the soccer team … earned a Presidential Award for Academic Excellence.
