2013 (Sophomore): Hess made 22 appearances for Tech, including five starts… led the OVC and finished 15^th nationally with 10.55 strikeouts per nine innings, the eighth highest single season mark in program history… tied for fourth in the league and ranked second on the team in strikeouts with 77 on the year… racked up 29 batters struck out looking, the second highest mark in the conference and most on the team… compiled a 7-2 record winning the second most games on the team and tied for seventh most in the OVC… ranked ninth in the league with a 3.84 ERA, the third lowest mark among Tech pitchers with at least 30 innings… recorded a 3.67 K/walk ratio, allowing just 21 walks to his 77 strikeouts, for the eighth highest single season mark in school history… tossed 6.0 shutout innings in a quality start against Niagara (Feb. 23), striking out eight while allowing just five hits for his first win of the year… earned the biggest upset victory in program history, throwing 1.0 shutout innings at No. 2 Vanderbilt (Apr. 16)… garnered Collegiate Baseball newspaper Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and OVC Pitcher of the Week honors after striking out a career-high 11 batters in just 4.1 innings of work in the OVC regular season championship clinching win over Belmont (May 16), allowing no runs and just one lowly hit… in the contest against Belmont, struck out 11 of the 14 batters he faced.

2012 (Freshman): Hess threw a total of 61.3 innings with seven starts and 19 appearances… had several great outings with Tech as a freshman… threw 6.0 innings against a great Evansville team, giving up three hits and one earned run while striking out four batters… against conference rival Southeast Missouri, started the Sunday game, throwing a stunning 8.0 innings in which he accumulated 10 strikeouts, two earned runs, and only one walk… the 10 strikeouts contributed to his 51 total strikeouts for the year… from April 5 to 11, made four appearances, throwing 3.2 innings without an earned run and collecting his first career save.

High School: Hess earned three letters in baseball while playing as a pitcher, outfielder, and shortstop at Tullahoma High School… earned several awards including two all-district nods and one all-state honor… named the District Pitcher of the Year… finished his senior season with a .393 batting average while hitting eight home runs and driving in 41 RBI… on the mound, posted an 8-1 record with a 1.91 ERA and 102 strikeouts… was part of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors.

Personal: Son of Jim and Charlotte Hess… born Jul. 10, 1993… full name is David James Hess… majoring in chemistry… named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll four times and to the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll once.
