Bringing five years of experience as the manager for the football team, John Albertson has been named as the Tennessee Tech University Athletics Equipment Coordinator where he will oversee all equipment needs and usage for the entire Golden Eagle Athletics program.

The new position of Athletic Equipment Coordinator will include purchasing, inventory and budget management, oversight of safety and maintenance, distribution, and collection of all athletic equipment within NCAA guidelines. 

In his new position, Albertson will also handle equipment contract negotiations, travel arrangements, purchasing of all apparel and coordinating of laundry services.

Albertson, 24, has spent the last year serving as the Graduate Assistant Equipment Manager for football, and he spent the prior four years as the team’s Student Equipment Manager.

The tasks Albertson has handled over the past five years have allowed him to develop key skills in maintaining an equipment budget, which includes duties such as negotiating contracts and writing purchase orders. He has also coordinated the expansion from two football uniform sets and one helmet, to seven uniforms and three helmets.

As part of the job duties of equipment manager, Albertson organized and maintained all football apparel and coordinated student equipment managers.  He has worked closely with the Tech coaching staff, the staff of visiting teams, and the distributors of apparel and equipment.

While in his graduate assistant role, he also served as an intern for the Tennessee Tech Athletics Business Office, assisting with the paperwork for Golden Eagle Athletics.

Albertson graduated in 2009 from Cookeville High School, where he played football and managed the women’s basketball team. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with a Concentration in Sports Management.

He is currently enrolled as a graduate student in sport management, and is expected to receive his master’s degree in May 2015.

Albertson has been a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association since 2010.
