A four-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, David Collett made his name as one of the top kickers in Tennessee Tech football history. Collett, in his four-year career, still stands as the career leader in scoring with 253 points.

At the end of his career, Collett had the third-highest scoring season in program history as he scored 67 points in the 2000 campaign. That total currently ranks 11th all-time. He scored 64 points as a freshman in 1998, 63 in 1999, and 59 in 2001.

He earned All-OVC First Team honors in 1999, while being named to the Second-Team roster in his other three seasons. His 1999 campaign also saw him selected to two All-American teams as he was named to the Associated Press' I-AA Second Team and TeamLink's Third Team.

In a 2000 game against Tennessee State, Collett was one PAT short of tying the single-game record for PATs made with eight against the Tigers. Only Wayne Anderson with nine against ETSU in 1977 stands greater. He had 35 PATs in 2001 for the fifth-most in a single season as a senior, and was the career leader with 106 when he finished, but was passed by Zach Sharp with 119 between 2011-14.

In 1998, Collett made 14 field goals – tied for the third-most in a single season. For a career, however, Collett has the most made, completing 49 field goal kicks in 68 attempts. In his junior campaign in 2000, two games ended on Collett field goals made in the final minute.  In his freshman campaign, he had 11 points -- three field goals and two PATs -- for the Golden Eagles' 31-29 triple-overtime victory over Eastern Kentucky, making a 40-yard kick to send the game into overtime. The victory broke a 22-game losing streak to the Colonels.

He was also named OVC Specialist of the Week five times and had one selection as the Sports Network National Special Teams Player of the Week.

Collett was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts in 2002.
