In four years on the diamond, former Tennessee Tech hurler Dave Pratt made a name for himself as one of the tougher men to score on throughout school history. A southpaw on the mound from 1964-67, he established multiple program records while collecting several honors and accolades as well.

Pratt became the first Golden Eagle ever (and just one of four total) to be named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in 1966, establishing a program record for single-season ERA with a team-best mark of 1.52, which still ranks as the third-lowest in school history today.

Following his incredible junior campaign, Pratt became the first known Tech player to be selected in the MLB Draft, earning the 78th overall selection in the January draft by the Cleveland Indians and 79th overall selection by the San Francisco Giants in the June secondary draft. As enticing as pursuing a major league baseball career may have appeared, the Tech starter elected to return to Cookeville for his senior season, rewriting the record books on his way.

While his season ERA saw an uptick, he still managed to put together the fifth-lowest mark in school history of 2.65 (still ranks 23rd today). More importantly, the senior helped lead the Golden Eagles to a then-school record 23 victories and an overall mark of 23-11. Not known for his bat, he still managed to become the first Tech player in school history to smash three home runs in a single game, blasting all three of his career round-trippers in a contest against Eastern Kentucky.

His fantastic performance on the mound earned him his third consecutive All-OVC Eastern Division honor in 1967, making him the first Golden Eagle to earn All-OVC accolades three times in a career, a club that consists of just five players to this day.

As a freshman, Pratt tied a school record with eight victories on the hill, a mark that still ranks 10th today. He also tied for second in program history with 52 strikeouts in both 1964 and 1966.

Over his career, Pratt established three career pitching records, all three categories of which he still ranks in the top five today. He tallied a 2.43 ERA (still second all-time), totaled 22 victories (still tied for second all time) and carved up 210 strikeouts (still fifth all-time), becoming the first of only five players in program history to record 200 or more strikeouts.

Pratt also spent three seasons as a member of the Golden Eagle basketball team (1964-1967), averaging 10.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 66 games. He also posted a .760 career mark from the free-throw line. In 1964-65, he picked up OVC All-Tournament recognition and, during his senior campaign in 1966-67, the guard finished third on the team in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game.

Pratt graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1970 with a degree in health and physical education.
