Stacy Hughes Britt
Year: 1994-97
Hometown: Ooltewah, Tenn.
Team: Softball
Induction Year: 2007

One of the most successful players in Tennessee Tech softball history, Stacy Hughes Britt was a four-time all-conference selection, the program’s first all-region player and an Academic All-American.

In 2005, the Tech softball program added her name to its Wall of Honor in center field, recognizing her as one of the greatest players in the program’s illustrious history.

A 1993 graduate of Ooltewah High School, she played four seasons for the Golden Eagles under coach Bobby Holloway and established several individual records which still stood at the time of her Hall of Fame induction.

The starter at first base for four years, she was selected first-team all-OVC all four seasons – one of only a few players in school history to accomplish this feat. She was also the first softball player in Tech history to accomplish this feat. She was also the first Golden Eagle softball player to be voted all-region, and was named to the OVC all-tournament team in 1996.

In the classroom, she was twice named CoSIDA Academic All-District and in 1996 was voted Academic All-America. Three times she was listed on the OVC commissioner’s Honor Roll, and in 1996 won the OVC Medal of Honor for the highest GPA among all softball players in the league. She was picked as the winner of the President’s Award in softball twice, and in 1996 was selected as Tech’s Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year.

In 1996 and 1997, she received the team’s MVP award. She was named Best Offensive Player in 1996, and earned the Most Dedicated Player award as a freshman in 1994.

In the 1996 campaign, Hughes hit for a school record .440 batting average, a mark that stood until 2001. She also set single-season records in 1996 for most hits and most runs scored. She established a school standard for fewest strikeouts in a season, fanning just two times all of the 1995 campaign. Her 44 stolen bases in 1997 also set a school record.

She set single-game records for most doubles (3), most triples (2), most walks (3) and most stolen bases (4).

On the Golden Eagle career charts, Hughes established the all-time mark for highest batting average with a .392 mark. At the time of her induction, she ranked fourth in at-bats (684), second in runs scored (168), second in hits (268), third in total bases (338), third in triples (16), and first in stolen bases (131).

As a freshman, she helped Tech post a 17-0 record and capture the league regular season title, leading the team in average, runs, hits and steals. She topped Tech in runs and steals in 1995 when the Golden Eagles were 33-25 overall, 17-4 in the league, won the OVC tournament title and played DePaul in the NCAA play-in series.

As a junior, Tech went 26-22 and reached the finals of the OVC Tournament, as Hughes led the way in average, runs, hits, doubles and steals. In her senior campaign, with the team posting a 36-13 record and a 20-9 OVC mark, Hughes was the TTU leader in hits, runs, and steals.

During her four years, the Golden Eagles posted a combined 126-76 record overall and went 65-23 against OVC foes.
