Angela Moorehead was the Most Valuable Player on the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team that enjoyed the most dominant three-year stretch in Ohio Valley Conference history between 1989 and 1991.

A three-time All-American and two-time Kodak all-region selection, Moorehead led Tennessee Tech to three straight Ohio Valley Conference championships and three appearances in the NCAA tournament during her career. She was chosen OVC Player of the Year twice and was named OVC Female Athlete of the Year as a senior.

A native of Shelbyville, Tenn., Moorehead helped the Eaglettes earn national Top 25 rankings all three seasons while compiling a combined 70-21 overall record and a remarkable 32-4 league record.

Moorehead led Tech in scoring all three seasons, and in rebounding two of her three years. She also topped the team one year in steals and one year in free throw percentage. In 1988-89, she averaged 19.9 points per game, and raised that average to 20.5 points the following year. As a senior, she scored 690 points to average 23.0 points per game.

At the time of her induction, she ranked fifth in career scoring with 1,925 points in her 91 games, and fourth in career rebounds with 813. She also listed 10th in career steals and 12th in blocked shots.

She was the first player in league history to earn MVP honors in the OVC tournament three times.

Among her many accolades, Moorehead set the Eblen Center scoring record, netting 44 points in a 1989 victory over New Hampshire.

She was selected team co-captain for her senior season (1990-91), and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player all three years. She was named All-America all three seasons by Fast Break Magazine and by The National Women’s Sports Federation. She was also a two-time Kodak all-district selection.

After her playing career at Tech, she played one season professionally in Sweden, and returned to Tech for two seasons as a restricted earnings coach for the Eaglettes before receiving her degree in multidisciplinary studies.
