Dr. William Headrick participated in four sports and earned several honors in each, but was most decorated on the basketball court. He was captain of the baseball team, in 1941, and the basketball team, in 1942-43. Among his career highlights in basketball, he is credited with holding Western Kentucky All-America center Orin McKinney scoreless as Tech upset the Hilltoppers, 45-34, in 1943. He also single-handedly outscored Sewanee, posting 21 points as Tech won 36-20 the same year.
