Dana "Cornbread" Winningham spent two years as a reserve and two years as a starter at Tech. He helped the Golden Eagles construct a 26-17-1 overall mark, including a 17-11 league record and the '72 title. Winningham paced Tech with 132 tackles in 1973 and added 84 stops as a senior. In 1973, he was named to the All-OVC Second Team and captured the Robert Hill Johnson Award for making the greatest contribution to the team's success. Following the 1974 campaign, in which he served as team captain, Winningham was voted All-OVC First Team.
