Pangle won two letters each in football, basketball, and baseball. He was team captain in all three sports his senior year. He returned to Tech in 1948 as the head coach for tennis and assistant coach in basketball, along with his academic duties. He helped John Oldham lead the basketball Eagles to three OVC championships with players that he had a critical role in recruiting. He taught at the University until 1977 when he retired as an assistant professor.
