Flavious Smith was still a two-sport standout at Tech during the days when athletes had begun specializing in just one. He was a four-year letterwinner in football and a three-time letterwinner in basketball, excelling in both. He is the only person ever named All-OVC in both sports. Smith was the recipient of the first Robert Hill Johnson award in 1951, awarded for the overall contributions to the Tech football program. He was also the first Golden Eagle to enter the National Football League, joining the Los Angeles Rams upon graduation.
