Creed McClure was an alternate captain of the 1939 football squad. He is most remembered for football but he also lettered in track in 1937, all under coach Putty Overall. After serving in the military he became a high school football coach, winning six conference championships and one "Coach of the Year" title in eleven seasons. He also served on and was elected chairman of the TSSAA Board of Control. Although Tech records do not show it, it is believed that McClure joined B. Holmes Neal as an All-American for the 1939 grid season.
