COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—Tennessee Tech head volleyball coach Dave Zelenock has announced another new addition to the 2016 Golden Eagleroster. Tech will welcome Rachel Thomas from Okemos, Mich., to the squad this coming fall. 

"Rachel will bring size and skill to the team," Zelenock said. "She was a middle who transitioned to a six rotation right side this season as her team took third at nationals. She's really young to the game, but has made huge strides in the last year in her volleyball IQ and athleticism. We expect her to compete right away for a middle spot or even on the right side." 

Thomas attended Okemos (Mich.) High School where she was a three-year volleyball letterwinner, playing middle blocker and right side under head coach Jamie Ianni. 

"I chose to attend Tech because I like its focus on math and science," Thomas remarked about why she chose Tech. "The size of the campus feels right, the Cookeville community is very friendly and welcoming, and it's a lot warmer than Michigan! In my first season as a Golden Eagle I look forward to learning a lot, becoming stronger, and growing my skills as a volleyball player. I hope that I can contribute to the team to help take the program to the next level. I look forward to the challenges and friendships that being a member of the team will provide." 

While at Okemos, Thomas received All-Conference and Class A All-Region accolades in 2014 and 2015. She led her team to CAAC League Championships in 2013 and 2015 and a third place AAU national finish in 2014. 

Thomas was also named to the AVCA Phenom List and Under Armor watch list in 2014 and 2015. Over the course of her high school career, she totaled 788 kills, 201 blocks, 137 aces, and 559 digs while compiling a 103-34-6 record. 

Thomas is the daughter of Joseph Thomas and Jennifer Everhart. She was born August 12, 1998, and is undecided in her major.
