Tech earns American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic award for third-straight year

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech volleyball team was named a recipient of the 2014-15 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic award, marking the third-straight Award for TTU. Tech is one of nine Ohio Valley Conference teams to win the award this year.

"Receiving this award shows the continued focus on academics that TTU has always been known for," head coach Dave Zelenock said. "This group came here to rebuild the program and part of what they bought into is that academics are importantn. Last year we took a big step on the court, and it's even more impressive that they did it without their grades suffering. With respect to recruiting, it is just proof to our future Golden Eagles that we live what we are selling. Academics and volleyball are our priority here at Tennessee Tech and this proves it."

The award, which was initiated by the AVCA in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
