COOKEVILLE, Tenn. − The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles absorbed two losses on the final day of the Samford Invitational, losing to North Texas and host Samford. The pair of losses brings TTU’s record to 2-6 on the season as the Golden Eagles look forward to the Western Kentucky Invitational next weekend.
“We gave a good effort and played two good teams,”
head coach John Blair said. “We created some opportunities
for ourselves but we were not as efficient as we needed to be. We
learned a lot of things we need to work on.”
TTU started the day with a 3-0 loss to the North Texas Mean
Green by the scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-14.
Freshman outside hitter Natalie Penrod led the Golden Eagles
on the offensive side of the net as she posted 12 kills for the
second straight match. Senior setter Melanie Culp tallied 26
assists while sophomore middle blocker Katrina Dvorken recorded
four of TTU’s 12 total blocks to pace the Golden Eagles on
the defensive end.
Tennessee Tech finished the day as it fell to Samford 3-0 by
the scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-20.
Sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Gray led TTU in kills with
seven, while Penrod recorded four of TTU’s eight total
blocks.
Tennessee Tech’s next action comes at the Western
Kentucky Invitational Friday as it takes on the University of
Missouri at 11:30 a.m., followed by Central Arkansas at 4:30
p.m.

Senior outside hitter Leah Meffert was named to the Samford
Invitational All-Tournament Team.
