COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off their first win of the season at home against Belmont, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team is looking to keep things going as it takes part in the Samford Invitational beginning Friday. Tech’s four foes this weekend have a combined 11-1 mark this year.
“We’ll have our work cut out for us this
weekend,” head coach John Blair said.
The Golden Eagles start the Samford Invitational Friday facing
two unbeaten teams as Tech takes on Syracuse at noon and ends the
day against the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 3 p.m. Tech is
1-0 all-time against Syracuse with their only meeting ending in a
3-2 win back in 1993. This will be the first meeting between TTU
and Northwestern State. Syracuse and Northwestern State each own
3-0 records this season.
“Syracuse is a big, strong team and well coached,”
Blair said.
Tennessee Tech continues the tournament Saturday against the
North Texas Mean Green at noon and finishes the day against the
host Samford Bulldogs at 3 p.m. This will be the first meeting
between the Golden Eagles and the Mean Green, while Tech owns a 7-3
all-time record against the Bulldogs including a 3-1 win in their
last meeting in 2007. North Texas owns a 3-0 record, while Samford
is 2-1 heading into the weekend.
“The other teams (North Texas, Northwestern State and
Samford) all had strong starts and they’ll be looking for
more this weekend,” Blair said.
