Golden Eagle volleyball camp begins

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With the fall season quickly approaching the members of the Tennessee Tech volleyball team will arrive in Cookeville to begin the preparation for the 2010 season. With Monday being photo day, the Golden Eagles first official practice will begin Tuesday.

Tuesday is the first day of camp for the team and will kick off a stretch of five straight two-a-days. The women will have a variety of physical sessions in the morning and will have a regular practice in the afternoon.
“We’ll be looking to see who is in shape and who conditioned during the summer,” said head coach John Blair. “ If we determine we need more two-a-days then we will have more next week.”
The team will work on all aspects of the game during camp but Blair but will want to emphasize defense, especially blocking. The practices and drills will help determine the strengths and weaknesses of each player.

Five of the 13 players reporting to camp will be freshmen and camp will be a good way to showcase what they can do first hand on the court.

”We hope they can come in right away and make a significant contribution,” said Blair.

Joining the Golden Eagle coaching staff will be graduate assistant coach Kelsey Murphy. Murphy graduated from Clemson University in the spring of 2010 after serving as the primary setter for three and a half seasons on the Tiger volleyball squad.

The team kicks off its 2010 season as it takes on Albany at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C., August 27.
