COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech women's basketball will spend part of their summer vacation in Portugal and fans will be invited to make the trip with them as a fan travel package will be available for the overseas swing.
The NCAA allows basketball teams to take an international trip every four years. It has become commonplace for programs to travel to Europe and Canada every summer in preparation for the upcoming season.
"This will be a trip and opportunity of a lifetime for our players," Tech head coach Kim Rosamond said. "Our staff has been working towards being in a position to do this for several years and we are so grateful for the continued administrative and donor support we receive at Tennessee Tech. These international trips are so valuable in so many ways. The basketball piece is huge in that we get an opportunity to compete against high-level competition and get a jump on building chemistry on and off the court. From a student-athlete perspective, it's priceless. Our young women will get to see a part of the world they may otherwise never see and get to experience and learn about other cultures."
The trip will run from August 3-11 with two games slated during this time. The team will spend time in Lisbon, Porto and Cascais among other Portuguese locales.
Among the seven nights in Portugal will be three nights in Porto and four nights in Cascais. The travel package includes hotel, basic ground transportation, admission to games, breakfast, excursions and guides.
The activities during the trip will be highlighted by a tuk-tuk tour of Lisbon, a tour of Sintra and Pena Palace, a visit to Cabo da Poca, a trip to Coimbra, a bus tour of Porto, a cruise down the Douro River.
The fan package does not include the flight, meals outside of breakfast, trip insurance, trip medical insurance or passport/passport fees.
There are two different packages available: a double occupancy package for $2,775 per person and a single occupancy package for $3,445. Both packages also have a $1,500 deposit.
