COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Whenever the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team needs a lift, the Golden Eagles have a reliable source in senior forward Kiera Hill.
With her can-do spirit and willingness to help and cheer on her teammates, Hill made an easy selection for the January Unsung Leader Award, presented by Golden Oak Sedation Dental and Implant Center.
"Kiera has been deemed the 'Chief Energy Officer' for our team," said Tech assistant head coach Allison Clark. "She brings the energy to the locker room, to practice and to games. You will always find her cheering and supporting her teammates. Kiera brings a spark off the bench and has contributed impactful minutes for our team the past month."
During Tech's current winning streak, Hill has averaged 15.6 minutes, 8.0 points and 5.3 rebounds, while shooting .481 from the field and .750 from the line.
Hill is a proud example of Tech women's basketball's core beliefs – the S.O.A.R culture: serving others, owning it, acquiring knowledge and responding positively.
"Kiera is the ultimate teammate," Clark said. "She lifts up others and gives energy to every person she comes in contact with every day. She was recently selected 'Employee of the Month' at Dunkin Donuts. Her work ethic and determination to be the best she can be both on and off the floor is contagious."
The Unsung Leader Award is selected from student-athletes who have been nominated by their coaching staff or members of the TTU Athletics Department for exemplifying outstanding leadership qualities during a given month. The leadership can be shown on the field, in the weight room, at practice, in the classroom, in study hall, on campus, in the community or for a student club or organization.
The award honors a varsity student-athlete who has made a positive impact on their team and the Tennessee Tech community as a whole, through his or her dedication to demonstrating leadership traits, such as:
- Keep learning, growing and improving;
- Follow through with excellence;
- Accomplish more than expected;
- Inspire and motivate others.
