Cassetty coming off third-place finish at MSU Invitational

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — A week after senior golfer Tyler Cassetty notched a third-place finish at Murray State's home event, Tennessee Tech is headed west again to the Skyhawk Classic, hosted by UT Martin at Paris Landing State Park.

The Golden Eagles were eighth of 14 teams at the MSU Invitational, and will be looking for lower scores at the Skyhawk Classic, their next-to-last tournament of the season.

"Paris Landing will present a good challenge for the guys in that there is not much room for error off the tee," said head coach Polk Brown. "Having said that, I think we are well prepared to put the ball in position to score and to ultimately put ourselves in the hunt for the title. We have some momentum to build on from the last tournament given the fact that we were just three shots off the pace after the first round at Murray. That tells me we are making progress and heading in the right direction. I'm excited to see where Monday and Tuesday goes."

Tyler Cassetty, Greg Kitts, Mason Griffin, Taylor Diegel and Travis Ramsey will make up the Golden Eagles' lineup at the tournament. Lee Maxwell and Max Verble will play as individuals.

Cassetty has been a steady leader for Tech so far this season, and posted one of his best tournaments as a Golden Eagle at the MSU Invitational, held at Miller Memorial Golf Course. The senior from Whitleyville, Tenn., shot below par in two of the event's three rounds, finishing with a score of 67-73-69=209 and tying for third place out of 75 golfers in the field.

The site of the Skyhawk Classic, Paris Landing Golf Course is situated on the western shore of Kentucky Lake, east of Paris, Tenn., in the Land Between the Lakes area. The entire course is tree-lined and several holes skirt Kentucky Lake.

After its opening in 1971, the course has hosted numerous collegiate and high school championships. The signature hole No. 4 is a downhill 186-yard par-3 with Kentucky Lake providing a scenic backdrop.

The Skyhawk begins Monday with 36 holes and concludes with a final round of 18 on Tuesday. Play begins at 8 a.m. each day.

Results will be posted on TTUSports.com as they become available.
