Tech sits in sixth out of 16 squads at F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — Greg Kitts fired a five-under-par 67 in the second round of the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Monday, placing himself in a tie for fourth place individually and leading Tennessee Tech to a spot in sixth.

Kitts opened the day with an even-par 72 in the first round, then shot his career-low round in the second for a combined score of 139. The sophomore from Caryville, Tenn., had shot his previous career-best, 69, at last season's F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate. Going into Tuesday's final round, he sits just one stroke off of second place and four strokes out of first.

Tech is sixth in the field of 16 teams at the event, hosted by Austin Peay and held at the Links at Novadell. The Golden Eagles posted a score of 288-286=574 and are 14 strokes out of the pace set by first-place Austin Peay, which finished at 560.

Kitts isn't the only Tech player to hold a spot in the top 10 spot in the field of 93 golfers after two rounds of play. Mason Griffin fired a first-round 68, going four under to set the pace for the Golden Eagles early on Monday, and finished with an even 72 in the second round to post a 140 and land in a tie for seventh place.

Griffin's first round was a career-low and bested his previous career-low of 70 set at the APSU Intercollegiate.

The rest of the Golden Eagle consisted of Tyler Cassetty (74-71=145), Taylor Diegel (74-76=150) and Travis Ramsey (79-78=157). Lee Maxwell played as an individual and shot 74-74=148 while Maxx Verble also played as an individual and came in at 77-76=153.

Austin Peay leads at 16-under par while Samford is just one stroke back at minus-15. Jacksonville State sits in third with 564 (-12) while Troy is fourth (-9) and Binghamton is fifth (-7).

Behind Tech in sixth at two-under, the rest of the field consists of Morehead State (-1), Belmont (E), Eastern Kentucky (+3), SIU Edwardsville (+8), Western Illinois (+8), UT Martin (+10), Wright State (+11), Lipscomb (+14), South Dakota (+18) and Tennessee State (+22).

Samford's Drew Aimone holds the individual lead with a first-round 67 and a second-round 68 to finish nine-under par at 135.
