AUBURN, Ala. – It's game three in the midst of a five-game road stretch for the Tennessee Tech men's basketball team. With stops in North Carolina and Wisconsin already checked off the list, the Golden Eagles will travel south to take on the Auburn Tigers in Alabama Tuesday night.

Setting the Stage
The Golden Eagles will meet their highest-profile opponent yet this season, taking on SEC member Auburn for the fifth time in program history. The Tigers own the series lead, taking a 3-1 advantage into the Tuesday tilt at Auburn Arena.

Auburn took the first game of the series, a 77-62 victory in 1980-81. The Golden Eagles have earned the last laugh in the series, however, taking down the Tigers in 1989-90, the last meeting between the two programs, winning a 72-70 nail-biter in Huntsville, Ala.

The Tigers come into the contest, owning a 4-5 record, including a 79-59 loss to Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State. Auburn is in the midst of a six-game homestand in which the team sits 2-2, winning its last two games against Grambling State and Furman.

Tech will enter the game coming off a 69-58 victory over Milwaukee that improved the team's record to 6-4 on the season. The Golden Eagles have other solid victories over Green Bay, Coastal Carolina, and East Tennessee State, all teams picked in the preseason to contend for their respective league titles.

Leading the Tigers in scoring is senior guard Frankie Sullivan, recording 17.7 points per game. Backing up the senior with 15.0 points per contest is junior guard Chris Denson, a native of Columbus, Ga., and one of five Auburn players from the state of Georgia. Taking charge of the rebounding efforts for the Tigers is senior center Rob Chubb. A 6-10, 250 pound native of the Peach State, Chubb pulls down 7.8 boards per game while adding 9.6 points on offense.

Jud Dillard remains the big name for the Golden Eagles, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding. Dillard, one of six Tech players from the state of Georgia, boasts 18.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest as a senior guard.

Junior guard Jeremiah Samarrippas, a transfer and two-year starter from Southern Methodist, ranks second for Tennessee Tech with 10.4 points per game and leads the team in assists with 4.2 per contest. He also leads the Golden Eagles with 1.4 steals.

Redshirt freshman Lanerryl Johnson, a guard from Atlanta, Ga., averages 10.3 points per game and has been especially effective over the past four games for TTU, averaging 13.8 per contest. He has scored in double figures six times this season. Johnson was named Monday as co-Freshman of the Week in the OVC.
