COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Recognizing their achievement for winning the
Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award in their
sports for 2011-2012, Tennessee Tech president Philip Oldham and
first lady Kari welcomed the Golden Eagle softball and men's
basketball teams to the Walton House Tuesday afternoon for an
informal reception.
"What you have done is very important," Oldham told the players
and coaches, along with several athletics administrators on hand.
"We know how hard you work to achieve success on the field or the
court, and we also recognize the amount of work you put in toward
your academic success. Winning games is something to be proud of,
but winning in the classroom is even more important. That's real
life, and we applaud you for your success."
The OVC Team Academic Achievement Awards are presented annually
in each of the 16 conference-sponsored sports to the member
institution's team with the greatest percentage of its eligible
student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade point average or
higher.
