COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With the conclusion of the 2013 Tennessee Tech football season in the rearview mirror, two Golden Eagle seniors will get the chance to suit up one final time in a collegiate game. Punter Chad Zinchini and offensive guard Wesley Sherrill have been invited to the 4th annual FCS Senior Scout Bowl to take place Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CDT.
A number of pro scouts are expected to be in attendance as the event serves as an opportunity for FCS players to showcase their skills among the nation’s best. The numbers speak for themselves as 34 percent of the players who have participated in the three-day event end up signing NFL contracts while 61 percent sign some sort of pro contract (CFL, Arena, Europe, etc.)
“It means a lot to me to be able to participate in a game of this magnitude,” Tech punter Chad Zinchini said after enjoying a successful 2013 campaign that resulted in a first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, BeyondSportsNetwork.com second-team All-America honor, and College Sports Madness second-team nod. “They think I’m one of the best punters in the nation, which is pretty awesome.”
Sherrill enters the event after serving as a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Golden Eagles, making 36 career starts at Tennessee Tech.
“When I heard I was invited to the bowl game I was ecstatic. I am very pleased to have a second chance to show what I can do one last time against other athletes that led the FCS, and to represent Tech during this event,” said Sherrill, who had a lengthy list of postseason achievements in his own right after being named as an All-OVC first teamer and a College Sports Madness All-OVC second teamer. “Being invited to the Senior Scout Bowl means a lot to me, it gives me a chance to show my abilities against others that are all fighting for one goal, being able to play again at a higher level.”
While the game takes place on Saturday, players will get the chance to impress scouts for three days thanks to open practices, workouts, and combine sessions beginning on Thursday. As far as the game itself is concerned, both sides on will be coached by ex-NFL players and top FCS coaching staffs.
