COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines,
Coast Guard and National Guard.
All current and past members of the U.S. military are invited to
be the guests of Tennessee Tech on Saturday when the Golden Eagles
host their annual Military and Public Safety Appreciation Day in
Tucker Stadium.
The team will roll out a new, camouflage-styled uniform and
members of the military and their families be tailgating with
up-armored military equipment, a static weapons display, the
National Guard Orange County Chopper and more. Past, present and
future service members will be recognized at halftime.
In recognition of the men and women who give the gift of Freedom
to all Americans and keep us safe every day, Tennessee Tech will
host the special event when the Golden Eagle football team hosts
Austin Peay in a 1:30 p.m. Ohio Valley Conference contest. It is
the final game of the 2013 season, and Tech will also recognize its
12 senior players in pregame ceremonies.
In addition, the game is also Scout Day, with all scouts admitted
free in their scouting uniforms.
All military personnel, both active and retired, as well
as persons working in law enforcement, emergency and first
responder fields will be admitted to the game free, along with
their immediate family members. The offer is available by showing
proper identification, and tickets can be obtained either in
advance or at the game.
To receive free tickets to the game, qualified personnel can
visit the Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center anytime during
regular business hours through Friday. The same offer will be
available at the ticket booths at the game beginning at 12:30
p.m.
"This is just a small token of our appreciation, in relation
to what our servicemen and women and our public safety personnel
are providing to all of us,” said Mark Wilson, TTU Director
of Athletics. “It's something that Tech athletics does to say
‘thank you' to the military and public safety personnel and
their families.”
The coin toss before the game will feature military and
public safety personnel alongside of Tech’s game
captains.
The 98.5 Kiss FM Tailgate Park opens at 10:30 a.m. The
pregame festivities will include music, kids games, and an array of
other activities. The now-popuar, new tradition of the Golden Eagle
Walk will wind through the Tailgate Park at 11:15 a.m.
To pick up the free tickets, or for additional information,
military and public safety personnel may visit or call the TTU
Athletics Ticket office in Eblen Center at (931)
