Tennessee Tech Baseball Weekend Preview (5/16)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – For the final time of the 2016 regular season the Tennessee Tech baseball team will play host to a non-conference opponent Tuesday afternoon, welcoming in the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville for a 2 p.m. CT tilt at Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.

The Golden Eagles enter the match-up after taking two of three Ohio Valley Conference contests from in-state rival Belmont over the weekend, jumping into sole possession of sixth place in the league standings with just one more OVC series to play. UNC Asheville is coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of Gardner-Webb over the weekend.

Freshman sensation Kevin Strohschein continues to tear apart opposing pitching, ranking second in the OVC with a .402 average and 82 hits. His team-high 66 RBI not only leads the league, but also ranks the outfielder in a tie for second nationally. The rookie has already broken freshman program marks for hits, home runs (13), RBI and doubles (19), and is on pace for several more at the conclusion of the year.
