Three Tech soccer matches, including two at home, move to Thursday nights

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fans have been turning out in record numbers to follow the Tennessee Tech soccer team. In order to continue their support, Golden Eagle boosters will need to make a couple of changes on their calendars to avoid missing any action.

Tennessee Tech has changed the dates of three matches this season, including two home contests, to realign with the Ohio Valley Conference master schedule. The league has allowed teams to change from the typical Friday-Sunday schedule that was originally set up, and several matches have been slated for Thursday nights.

“Our team would have been put into a position where they were at a competitive disadvantage if we left our matches on all Fridays, so we have agreed to move three matches from Friday to Thursday,” explained Director of Athletics Mark Wilson.

“These moves allow our team the extra day to rest and prepare for the Sunday match, the same as our Sunday opponents will have those weeks,” he said. “We are asking our fans to adjust their schedules, but we feel that moving these matches to Thursdays was the right thing to do for our student-athletes. Hopefully our fans will be able to make those adjustments.”

The first match to move is a road contest at Belmont, which will now be played on Thursday, Sept. 24 instead of the previously scheduled Friday (25th).

The two home matches moving to Thursday nights are in October in back-to-back weeks. Tech will host Austin Peay on Thursday, Oct. 15 and UT Martin on Thursday, Oct. 22.
