Soccer exhibition match planned for Friday cancelled; staff looking for options before opener

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- With just one week remaining before the regular season opener (Friday, Aug. 21), Tennessee Tech soccer coach Steve Springthorpe and his team were planning to work out plenty of kinks and answer some pressing questions in an exhibition match on Friday night (Aug. 14).

However, with injuries and uncertainties on the Alabama A&M roster, the Bulldogs will not be available to travel to Cookeville for the event and Friday's exhibition match has been cancelled.

Springthorpe is exploring options for an opportunity to get his team onto the field in an exhibition setting early next week. If he's able to arrange an alternative, details of any action added to the schedule will be announced on TTUsports.com and via social media outlets Twitter and Facebook as well as regular media outlets.

Whether or not the team adds any action next week, the regular season opener is set for Friday, Aug, 21, against Arkansas Little Rock at 7 p.m. It will be an historic night, serving as Tennessee Tech's first home match under the lights which were installed on the Tech Soccer Field this summer.

Admission for the home matches is free.
