Golden Eagles drop conference opener; Morehead takes the 2-0 victory

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech women's soccer team kicked off conference play for the 2010 season Friday evening, taking to the road for their first pair of OVC match-ups in Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky this weekend.

Tech suffered a loss at the hands of the Eagles however, as MOR silenced the Golden Eagle offense during the 6 p.m. night game, while netting two goals on TTU.

Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Polk got her third start of the season and went all 90 minutes for Tech, facing 21 shots over the course of the game, nine of which fell on net. Sarah Gawthrop led the way for Tech with two shots, while returning all-OVC newcomer Andrea Meloff added one.

Devan Jordan gave the Eagles the lead at the conclusion of the first half, when she beat Polk one-on-one for an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute. Erin Adams contributed the second goal when she connected with a corner kick for a header in the 84th minute.

"Morehead came to play tonight, and we just couldn't shut down their attacking line," said first-year coach Daniel Brizard. "They controlled the tempo of the game, and our offense didn't have a chance to build up a transitional game.

"We'll be looking come out strong offensively on Eastern Kentucky on Sunday," he continued.

The Golden Eagles will take Saturday to travel and rest before taking on the Colonels in Richmond on Sunday at 12 p.m.
